The holdings of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Research Center are cataloged on WISCAT, which is the electronic catalog for Wisconsin libraries. This catalog provides access to both published materials and manuscript collections. Because cataloging is an ongoing process, new acquisitions may not yet appear on WisCat. Please contact the Reference Archivist if you have questions about any materials that do not appear on WISCAT.
When searching WISCAT we suggest that you search both specific names and locations, as well as the unit with which the soldier served in. Along with individual-specific research, the WVM facilities have the potential for researching those whose service careers may parallel a specific soldier or sailor.
Reference Assistance: Reference staff are on duty to assist researchers in person during all open hours (M-F 9-3:30) of the research center. Researchers with complex research topics may make an appointment for individualized assistance.
Reference staff can also provide reference service via the form below, telephone, fax, or standard mail. See contact information at the bottom of this page.
Inquires are handled in the order they are received. Response time is typically one week, but can take longer depending upon the volume of requests received. Please wait until a response has been received before contacting us again with additional questions.
Staff members cannot undertake extensive research but are limited to 30-45 minutes for an individual request.
Please restrict your inquiry to no more than three specific questions. Should your request be more involved, we ask that you consider a visit to our facility or hire an outside researcher to do the work for you. A list of names of outside researchers and their fees is available upon request.
Please be sure to include as much background information as possible for your request. If you are researching an individual, be sure to at least include his or her name, service branch, and period of service.

The holdings of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Research Center, along with the holdings of libraries worldwide are available on WorldCat. Newly cataloged items are searchable on WorldCat the day after they are cataloged.
Please note not all items in WorldCat are available at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Research Center. If you find an item not owned by the Wisconsin Veterans Museum or a library near you, we encourage you to contact the WVM or your local public library to interlibrary loan for the item.
