The Wisconsin Veterans Museum Research Center collects, preserves, and encourages the use of historical materials that document the role of Wisconsin citizens in military history. Its collections include a military history library and archives that contains published material, manuscript collections, oral history interviews, photographs, maps, and posters pertaining to individual Wisconsin veterans, Wisconsin veterans' organizations, and the Wisconsin National Guard.
The Wisconsin Veterans Museum Research Center is located on the third floor of 30 W. Mifflin Street in Madison, Wisconsin. Map and directions to the museum. Visitors may either enter the museum gallery doors on the first floor and receive directions to the research center or they may go one door down to the lobby which reads, "30 on the Square," and take the elevator to the third floor.
Hours of Operation
Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or by special appointment. Researchers traveling to the museum may want to contact the Reference Archivist in advance by email or by telephone at (608) 267-1790.
Group Visits or Tours: Tours or visits tailored to individual needs may be arranged with the Reference Archivist.
School Group Visits: The Wisconsin Veterans Museum Research Center offers three types of primary source visits for school groups. Click here to determine which type of visit will best meet the needs of your students.
All researchers are asked to register on their first visit. For security purposes, personal belongings are checked in individual lockers. Researchers may bring only pencils, paper and laptop computers into the research center.
